Melody Huckle CO10, is daughter of former Truro School teachers Mark Huckle (Head of Religious Studies 2003-2016) and Ruth Huckle (TS 2004-2017). Melody attended Truro School for the full seven years of her senior education, from 2003 – 2010:
“Truro School really instilled me with a positive and lasting work ethic: If you work hard, you will achieve. I have fond memories of hilarious history lessons with Dr Spring (Head of History) and enjoyed being in the netball team home and away matches, as well as playing saxophone in the Wind Band, on the Geneva tour and the Hall for Cornwall concerts”.
Melody continued her studies at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, graduating in 2013 with a BA (hons) in Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status. Her teaching career began at King Charles Primary School in Falmouth where she taught Year 1 children. She remained in the role for two years until moving on to St Thomas á Becket Primary School in Tilshead, on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, where she teaches a mixed year class of Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 pupils. Melody is also the school’s teaching lead for a variety of subjects including maths. She thoroughly enjoys her teaching role:
“I gain a lot of satisfaction from seeing the children progress daily with their reading, writing and maths skills and just watching them grow is enjoyable. Teaching can be rather exhausting but when you see children progressing and having those ‘lightbulb’ moments, it’s so rewarding and worthwhile”.
As a teacher, this past year has been a challenge for Melody ensuring that her class were able to access learning everyday with her support though the pandemic. Each morning Melody would kickstart the day with a whole class ‘Google Meet’ online to go through the day and have the class ‘show and tell’ and ‘story time’ sessions.
“It was lovely to see the children each day even though it wasn’t in person. Their wellbeing was my priority and, all things considered, they coped really well with all of the sudden changes. I feel seeing me every day offered them a little reassurance and normality. They were all so excited to come back to school and have all returned with a positive work ethic”.
Melody lives in Salisbury with her fiancé James who is a carpenter for the construction company Knights Brown. James is from North Cornwall, so they regularly visit their respective families. Melody is still close with her friends from Truro School; Amie Cadwell (née Tall) CO10, Catherine Self CO10, Devan Clifford-Wing CO10, Beth Murphy CO11, Sarah de Gruchy CO09, and James Anderson CO12.
Melody’s Mum, Ruth Huckle is still connected to the Truro School Music department and is also a Neuro- diverse strategy coach for Genius Within company. Her Dad, Mark, is enjoying his retirement filming Cornish football. Melody’s brother, Simon CO08, works for JP Morgan, an investment bank and financial services company, and has recently relocated to Dulwich, London after living in Buenos Aires for four years.
Melody and James recently bought and renovated their first property together in Salisbury, and they are expecting their first child together in June of this year. Since James is also Cornish, the couple plan to have a Cornish summer wedding in July 2022.
When restrictions ease Melody is most looking forward to seeing her family and friends. Having been pregnant during lockdown two and three, she is excited to celebrate her pregnancy with family and friends before she gives birth and then plans to enjoy the time with their new addition this summer in Cornwall.
We look forward to receiving an update from Melody and James soon, with news of the newest edition to their family!
