Music of the Sea for Book Week

Music brings such a joy to our pupils and has been an imperative part of Book Week, alongside our other events.

Year 4 have delighted their parents with a display of folk music in their orchestra. Dressed in under the sea themed attire, as part of book week, the sounds of ukulele, guitar and violin filled the hall with sound. This was a display of dedication to learning or improving knowledge through music and instruments of pupils taking up lessons with our many visiting music teachers.

Truro School is proud to offer a nurturing environment to learn, with a proud growth in music education and a cultured offering. Mrs Renshaw said, “We take pride in the adventurous instrument choices made by our pupils, showcasing music as an integral and unique part of our curriculum. Their unwavering dedication to music in all formats is inspiring, especially as the popularity of learning orchestral instruments has slowly shown less popularity among the masses. This commitment is evident in the number of our students who actively participate in county level music ensembles such as the Cornwall Youth Orchestra, Cornwall Youth brass, Cornwall Wind Orchestra .”

It was great to see so many supportive parents in our audience today and well done to all of Year 4 involved in the production. Alongside the Orchestra, Year 4 have been learning Cornish dances with Mr McQuarrie – a highly skilled visiting music teacher who is part of our school community.

In the playground all years have been learning and singing sea shanties at lunch time, with many pupils trying their hand at this and supporting their friends. These have been relaxed open sessions, blessed by this week’s great weather that any pupil has been able to join in with. The sounds have cheered up each lunch hour, and many children have been keen to take part, with some showcasing their own written musical pieces.
