On Friday, the 4th of April, the wonders of World Book Week were brought to a close with a fantastic afternoon of poetry for the ‘Out of the Blue Poetry Final 2025’.
The afternoon began with a stunning performance from our Year 2 pupils, followed by a beautiful rendition of ‘Where There is Light’ by the Truro School Prep Choir. Also performing throughout the afternoon were Gabriel with ‘Lotus Talk’, Hugo with ‘Herring’, and the Truro School Prep Orchestra. The afternoon was brought to a moving close with a performance of ‘Cornwall My Home’, led by Aria, Annie, Tilda, Lissie, and Ellie.
Peppered throughout were some delightful recitals of much-loved poems, all themed around wonderful water, and included ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’ by Edward Lear, ‘After the Sea Ship’ by Walt Whitman and ‘The Lobster Quadrille’ by Lewis Carol.
Well done to all of our finalists: Malhar, Edward S, Seren, Henry C, Saffron, Harry B, Ethan, Endelyn, Tristan G, Ellie L, Amaya, Hugo L and Aria.
Our fantastic winners were:
Year 4 – Seren with ‘Albatross’ for her spellbinding performance.
Year 5 – Harry B with ‘When Daddy Fell in the Pond’, for changing moods with his performance.
Year 6 – Tristian G with ‘Greenaway’, who really thought about the journey and used his face to tell the story.
The overall winner was Ethan with ‘Ode to Water’, for his fun performance, which fully captivated the audience.
Thanks to our guest judge, Rachel Vaughan, who remarked, “We have a very bright future of poetry at Truro School”.
A special thank you was given to Ms Cad for organising the afternoon and a week full of wonderful activities as part of Book Week.
