Despite a raft of Christmas activities, our Truro School Prep pupils have also managed to fit in some memorable sporting fixtures. Up first were our U11 football teams, who gave a great performance against Kea School on Monday. Both teams showed some wonderful passing and highlights included a clever dummy for the 5th and some cracking goals, including a hat-trick for Henry McCotter. With both teams securing wins, we look forward to seeing them in action again next week in a cup match against Mount Hawke.
On Tuesday 3rd December, cheered on by a plethora of parents, Truro School Prep played host to Truro High, Polwhele House and Archbishop Benson for an afternoon of U9’s TAG rugby. With our Year 4 children having progressed to playing contact rugby, the festival-style fixture enabled us to field the entire Year 3 cohort across four teams against the other schools’ Year 4 age groups.
For many of the children, this was their first taste of competitive fixtures and a chance to experience the benefits competitive sport plays in developing their emotional and physical wellbeing. With so many children displaying great sportsmanship, resilience and most importantly, huge smiles, it was clear to see a successful afternoon was had by all.
It has also been a busy week of house matches at the Prep. We believe that providing competitive opportunities in sport, such as house matches, are hugely important in every child’s development. They promote the development of valuable life skills, such as resilience, leadership, collaboration and independence, which can inspire the children and give them confidence in all aspects of life.
This week’s house matches were fun and inclusive, with every child receiving a positive experience of sport. Every child was given the opportunity to achieve their potential by representing their house in mixed small-sided games. You could easily see the impact of their learning in curriculum lessons and extra-curricular clubs, through their improved decision-making, movement skills and confidence within the game.
Year 4 hockey house matches results:
1st = Wickett (21 points), 2nd = Vinter (17 points), 3rd = School (11 points), 4th = Smith (9 points)
Year 6 netball house matches results:
