Prep Sports Round Up 24.01.25

Truro School Prep has enjoyed another busy week of sports and games, with some fantastic matches taking place.

The U10s kicked off their netball season with a friendly match at home against Mount Kelly. Some of the players hadn’t had much match experience, so this was a fantastic chance for them to apply the skills they have been learning in games lessons on the court. The team showed great determination, fighting for every ball and maintaining possession, especially within our shooting circle. They learnt a lot and showed amazing potential for the season ahead.

Our U11 netball squad have also been in action having made the annual trip to the Senior School to experience what playing inside the Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre (SBA) is really like. It is a lovely opportunity to reconnect with old friends and demonstrate their skills to the Senior School teaching staff.

The girls played some beautiful netball and learnt a lot from playing the older girls. They could not get away with trying to throw the ball over the opposition’s heads and so were forced to drive forwards into the space to receive the ball, which led to increased movement and speed of play, something we have been working on in training. The girls finished the match with rosy, red cheeks and smiling faces, a sure sign that they worked their socks off and had some fun!

Our U11 hockey squad also made the short trip across Truro to take on the Year 7 boys at the Senior School, which proved to be an extremely enjoyable session for everyone involved.

The squad was split into two teams to take on the Year 7’s and we embarked on a round-robin tournament. Playing a mature style of hockey, the boys passed the ball wide and hit the opposition fast on the break. The boys from both year groups put on a tremendous display and were a real credit to themselves and the school.

The hardest fault match was when the two Year 6 teams played against each other, in a real battle of nerve, with the lead see-sawing between them. The winning goal came with just 30 seconds left in the match. From a free hit by their own goal, the green team managed to move the ball the length of the pitch and score in less than 10 seconds.

Well done to all of our teams who showed such great skill and camaraderie again this week.
