It has been another busy few weeks for sport at Truro School Prep, with no signs of slowing down as we race towards the end of term.
In netball last week, our Year 6 girls travelled to Truro High School for one of the first friendly matches of the year. The afternoon was a great opportunity to try out new positions and playing partnerships and practice the vital linking play that has been the focus of training for the past few weeks.
The girls played beautifully; five quick goals in the first quarter allowed us to settle into our stride and keep possession of the ball. Emmeline and Amaya were fantastic in defence; they intercepted any ball coming down the court and helped regain control of the game. They remembered to pass the ball down the court, ahead of the receiving player who was moving into a space.
Despite some excellent netball, the highlight was the attitude of the girls and their ability to work as a team, showing great flexibility and versatility in their positions and play. Well done to Emmie A who was awarded a very well-deserved Player of the Match from Truro High, recognition for her movement into space within our own attacking circle.
Mrs Egford would like to remind all pupils who are interested in playing netball that the Senior netball club continues to run on Mondays 1.00 – 1.30pm and Wednesday 4.00-5.00pm. All are welcome!
In football, our U11 team travelled to the ESFA Qualifiers at Mounts Bay Academy. The team showed fantastic effort and determination, with some beautiful, flowing football. They played a whopping 8 matches, and only lost one match (to the overall winners by one goal) to place 4th overall. A huge well done to the team; we look forward to more great action to come.
In hockey, our U11 and U10 girls’ teams have been in action as we hosted Mount Kelly at Truro School. The children played some fantastic hockey and worked hard to defend as a team, targeting playing the ball wide when playing out from the back and trying to ensure that they kept possession of the ball. It is great to see the progress all the girls are making and see so many of them enjoying the after-school club each Friday. Well done to the players of the match Endelyn (Year 5), Rosie and Flossie (Year 6).
And finally, congratulations to our talented Year 5 and 6 gymnasts, Roen, Ethan, Sophia, Phoebe, Ellie, Annie, Poppy, Tilda, Aria, Harlow, Flossie, Emmie and Lissie, who performed to an incredibly high standard at yesterday’s Key Steps gymnastics event.
This gymnastics event was hosted by Richard Lander School, with their sports leaders officiating as judges. We took two club teams and one non-club team, who each performed their stage 2 or stage 3 body management and floor exercise sequences in front of the judges.
With six local schools attending including Mount Hawke, Kea, Mithian, Archbishop Benson and St Erme with Trispen, this took considerable confidence. Each of our gymnasts performed a body management sequence, floor exercise and two vaults. For some of our non-squad gymnasts, this was the first time they had competed as individuals (within a squad) and this took great courage.
The staff involved in the event took great pride in all of our pupils who showed such amazing spirit and were incredible ambassadors for Truro School Prep.
We are delighted to announce that our Truro School Prep Team placed first overall and qualified for the next round of the event, the Peninsular Final on Friday, 24th January 2025. A huge well done to the squads!
