Year 5 took the opportunity to take their science lesson outside this week and recreate the solar system on a sunny day.
Using a metre clicker, the young astronomers marked out where each planet would be scaled down, which took the length of the entire field. The boys stood at the fence were Neptune, which should’ve been another 10m further beyond the fence.
They could see the four closest to the sun (the rocky planets) were quite close together, but that the four gas giants were a huge distance from each other and from the sun. They all said that it gave them a fantastic idea of the scale of space.
