Senior Sports Round-Up 04.04.25

It was a delight to welcome students, staff and parents to our annual Sports Dinner on Friday. It was a fantastic evening celebrating the sporting successes, team spirit, and determination shown by our older athletes throughout the year. With a sporty blessing from Rev Helen to begin a delicious three-course meal, the evening also included an interactive sports quiz and the all-important presentation of Sixth Form colours, Players of the Year, and the two prestigious awards of Outstanding Sporting Achievement and Truro School Sports Ambassador. You can read all about the dinner here.

It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on everything our teams have accomplished, and it is a pleasure to share some of the latest sporting highlights from across the school community:

The U15 football team pulled off a sensational win on Thursday, overcoming tournament favourites Redruth in a thrilling semi-final clash at the impressive Vogue Park, home of St Day AFC. After a tense and nervy first half, a tactical reshuffle by Mr Sullivan and Mr Whitmore paid off instantly, with Woody calmly slotting home a penalty before Felix fired in a stunning solo goal. Despite a late Redruth resurgence, and with eight minutes of pressure-packed defending, the boys held on for a well-earned 2-1 victory. Mr Whitmore hailed the performance as the best he’s seen in four years of working with the squad, praising their incredible improvement and dedication. The team now looks ahead to a County Cup Final at Blaise Park after Easter. The semi-final followed their thrilling encounter against a strong and physical Penair side in a dramatic penalty shootout. After a rousing half-time team talk, Nathan C found the net to equalise in the second half. The game remained locked in extra time, but it was Tom’s heroic save in the opening penalty that set the tone for victory. A huge well done to the team!

A big congratulations to the U12 netball team, who finished 3rd in the Cornwall County Netball Tournament last week. The girls played brilliantly, showing great teamwork, resilience, and skill. Mrs Morgan and Mrs Newton were incredibly proud of every player’s contribution.

In other netball news, teams enjoyed a friendly fixture against Poltair two weeks ago, a great chance to put WAA training into action. Meanwhile, students in 1st, 2nd and 4th Years rounded off the term with a fun-filled Easter-themed WAA netball session – well done for all your hard work this term!

Well done to the 2nd Year girls’ football team, who earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Penrice Academy in their friendly fixture on Wednesday. After a previous defeat to the same team, this match was a fantastic display of progress, teamwork, and perseverance.

The boys’ tennis team enjoyed a pre-season friendly against Penair School in the SBA this week. A special mention goes to 4th Year boarder Mate, who played his final match for Truro School before returning to Hungary to continue his education and tennis career. We wish you all the best, Mate!

In a spectacular celebration of school sport, over 240 pupils took part in fixtures between Truro School and Penryn College under glorious Cornish sunshine. A huge thank you to the Penryn PE team and pupils for joining us and to Mr Hooper for organising such an exciting day.

A special mention to Dan G, who represented Truro School at the National Schools Biathlon Finals at Bath University. Dan competed brilliantly in both the run (1600m) and swim (100m freestyle), finishing an outstanding 4th overall out of 31 Year 9 finalists.
