A Flavour of Spain

The start of this week had a distinctly Spanish feel, with a tapas afternoon led by Sixth Former Ollie. The language department was filled with lively Spanish music and the delicious aroma of tortilla de patatas, jamón ibérico, and aceitunas, all provided by our students. A standout treat was Oriana’s delicious home-baked Basque cheesecake.

This small gathering was not just about the food; it was a fantastic opportunity for some of our Sixth Form language students to practice their Spanish, share cultural insights, and engage in lively discussions. Our staff members were equally excited to join in the fun.

Mrs Le Bihan Murphy said “This event has been fully pupil-led, and it was a lovely chance for us to chat in Spanish, share ideas for learning and prepare for exams together,” Spanish assistant Esther was also in the mix, Esther works one-on-one with students each week to boost their confidence in conversational Spanish.

We have lots to look forward to in this busy department, including European Languages Day later this month.

All MFL teachers are keen for students and younger pupils to bring forward their creative ideas for future language gatherings. Mrs Le Bihan Murphy is keen to connect with all multilingual speakers across the School.
