Sporting Success Round Up 29/11/24

There has been a superb line up of results for sports in recent weeks, along with some wonderful success for our teams and individual players.

Here is the latest round up of sports.

In fencing, Hannah H had a brilliant day competing at Millfield, winning the South West Senior Sabre Championships. Despite only being the minimum age to compete in this senior event, she delivered an amazing performance and is now the South-West Women’s Sabre Champion.

Congratulations to the 11 netballers who represented the school at the U19 county netball tournament on Saturday, 16 November. Truro School played four other Sixth Form teams in a gruelling back-to-back schedule. All girls played superbly, winning their first two matches against Penwith College and Callywith College. Next up were reigning champions, Truro College. Truro School started superbly and took the lead. The final score was a close 6-8. The last match against Bude resulted in a convincing win. Truro School received their runners-up medals and will go on to represent Cornwall at the regional finals in February.

Congratulations to Tansy G for securing a much-coveted place in the U17 NPL (Netball Performance League) playing for Team Bath. It is a huge achievement for a 4th Year pupil to be playing on the U17 team and to be selected as one of only 22 players for the squad.

It was a close game for our U14 netball team in the Sisters n Sport competition against Devonport High School for Girls. Trailing 11-2 after the first quarter, the team staged an incredible comeback to finish 27-27 at full time. After a nail-biting golden goal, Devonport just edged the win 28-27.

In football, our U13 and U15 girls’ football teams took part in the 2nd round of ESFA against Truro High School. Both teams played brilliant football, with Mr Hooper and Mr Sullivan commenting on how fantastic it was to see great team spirit, compassion and resilience on both home pitches! The U13 team faced a very contested game, and after a great team talk from Mr Sullivan the team were ready to give it their all in extra time, working brilliantly to achieve a goal, allowing them to progress into the next round. The U15s also had a great result on their pitch, achieving a 7-1 win! A shout-out to Fenella in the 4th Year who scored five goals in the match. Well done to the team who also progress to the next round.

1st Year football in games has the focus of creating space from set pieces and moving defenders out of position to receive the ball. A cold, windy but sunny afternoon, with excellent engagement from the whole class.

Well done to the U13 girls’ hockey team on their outstanding performance at the regional finals last week. They had some excellent results against strong hockey schools and just missed progressing to the cross-over matches. Good luck to the U14 and U16 girls’ teams, who recently claimed the county titles for their age groups and are competing at the regional finals.

Congratulations to James H, Freddy G, Jack S, Jacob C, Max L-T and Tilly H who represented Cornwall in the Junior Inter Counties England Squash Competition. The Cornwall U15 boys’ team was entirely made up of Truro School boys, with Tilly H representing the U13 girls. James and Jacob saw some fantastic wins and the teams all scored well to make it a remarkably close competition. Many thanks to Alan Murray, school governor, for organising the teams and training weekends, driving to Bristol and Bath and coaching them through the tournament.

Well done to all the Rugby players involved in the competitive fixtures this week against Richard Lander.

A huge congratulations to Neala C, who took part in the Alan Knit Memorial Table Tennis Trophy recently. Neala achieved Runners-Up out of 27 competitors. Well done, Neala, for being a brilliant ambassador for girls’ table tennis.

A big well done to Aria G ran in the U13 age group at the Cornwall Cross Country County Championships today and finished 1st in a well fought race. Kenny also had a brilliant run. His age group was combined with the senior men for a tough 8.4km course. Kenny ran exceptionally well, coming second in the Under 20’s automatically qualifying him for the South West and National Inter Counties. An excellent start to the cross-country season.

Also, a special mention to the U15 boys who refereed at the Prep School Rugby Festival last Wednesday. They represented the school fantastically well, and the feedback from parents and staff was brilliant. A big thank you to all involved.

Thank you also to the brilliant PE and Games departments for their ongoing support and commitment to our sports people.
