Truro School is privileged to have a hard working and dedicated Board of Governors who set the school’s strategic vision and offer support and guidance to the School’s leadership team.
Mr Richard Thomas is Chair of the Governors. Richard is a Chartered Building Surveyor, former owner and now consultant of RTP Surveyors which has offices in Falmouth and Bodmin.
Brought up in Altrincham, Cheshire, Richard attended Altrincham Grammar School and later obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Building Surveying at Leicester and started his surveying career with Strutt and Parker in London before moving to Cornwall in 1983. For a short while, Richard worked with Stratton and Holborow before establishing his own practice, now RTP Surveyors, in 1986, managing and overseeing its growth into the largest independent firm of Chartered Building Surveyors in the County. The firm has been at the forefront of many surveying developments over the years including mundic block matters. The practice has won various local and regional awards over the years for design, restoration works and project management. In 2018 Richard sold his interest in the practice but remains a consultant to the firm.

The Truro School Board of Governors works closely with the Head and Senior Leadership Team acting as a “critical friend”, providing challenge and support in equal measure. All our Governors have integrity, strong personal and professional values and a willingness to challenge and ask questions along with an understanding of the needs of the School and an appreciation of our values.
Truro School is situated over two campuses, the Senior School set within 40 acres of sports fields and open spaces overlooking Truro and its iconic Cathedral, and a vibrant Prep School located across the city. Truro School was founded with an ethos of compassionate ambition. Truro School’s motto “Esse Quam Videri” (to be rather than seem to be) captures the essence of our identity. Underpinned by strong Christian principles, we are a caring and inclusive community which values, nurtures and develops each individual.
Our mission is to be the independent school of choice in the South West and our Governors are a key part of providing the strategic and effective leadership needed to achieve this.
