On Monday 20th June, Truro School Prep travelled to Kings College, Taunton to compete in the Under 11, Hardball Cricket, South West Region Finals. Truro started the tournament with a fantastic fielding display against Exeter School (Devon), which then set them up to win the game convincingly following some superb batting.
Truro’s second game against a very strong King Hall (Somerset) team was hard-fought. Batting first against a clearly more experienced team, Truro held their own and learnt some valuable lessons on tactics and techniques of the game. With a long pause in play for lunch, Truro then fielded against Kings. Resilient to the end, Truro couldn’t quite manage to secure the wickets needed and Kings finished worthy winners.
The final game saw Truro play St Michael’s Middle School (Dorset); Truro fielded first and uncharacteristically were a little loose, leaving them with a large total to chase. Truro set to task with grit and determination, and the game was on a knife-edge right until the final over. Sadly, St Michael’s just did enough to secure victory leaving Truro finishing in 3rd place overall on the day.
The players can be proud of the character, sportsmanship, compassion and determination shown throughout the day. As always a massive thank you to all parents and family members who come to watch.
