Waves of Creativity: Hand Plane Designs

The Tuesday after school DT group have been creating body surfing hand planes.  They sketched their ideas on paper and made card templates before picking out wood scraps from the workshop store. These scraps from many different woods were edge-butted together to create their one of a kind designs. After shaping and sanding them, the hand planes are coated in resin to protect them from saltwater, and a neoprene handles will be added later on. This eco-friendly product, made from leftover workshop materials, really shows off the pupils’ creativity and skills. We can’t wait to hear how they perform in the waves.
