As Christmas creeps closer, excitement levels have been high at Truro School Prep. With outstanding performances from all classes for their Christmas productions done, there was still plenty of learning and joy to be had.
Our Nursery children have been getting into the festive spirit by putting up and decorating their Christmas tree. Pupils made their own baubles to add a touch of festive sparkle. On Friday, our youngest musicians were treated to a drumming session on djembes. Linking to the Christmas play and the theme of ‘the true meaning of Christmas’, we explored the carol ‘The Little Drummer Boy’, which is about a little boy who visits the baby Jesus and gives him his drum as a present. The children learnt the rhythm to ‘Pa Ra Pa Pa Pum’. They had to use two hands, which was a new drumming technique for them, listen to the carol and drum along at the correct time.
Alongside their brilliant Christmas play performances, our Reception children have been writing a sentence about their roles in the production. In maths, they have been learning how to use our Christmas calendar to count down the days until Father Christmas comes.
In literacy this week, Year 1 has been talking about pirates and creating pirate poems using interesting adjectives, while in PE, they have been practising their hockey skills.
In science, Year 2 pupils have been learning about different food chains. In literacy this week, pupils have been working on punctuation and how it can affect the meaning of a sentence.
