As the sun peeped out this week, our Pre-Prep children (Nursery to Year 2) were certainly making the most of being outdoors during their lunchtime, having been very busy in the classroom again this week.
Our Nursery and Pre-Prep curriculum is rich and varied and carefully balances continuous provision (play-based learning) with phonics, maths and early writing. This week, our Nursery children have been working with Mrs Nixon to create some amazing farm animals for their display. They have also been enjoying their Forest School sessions; stirring, mashing, painting, pouring and filling up cups with ‘hot chocolate’ in our mud bath.
Reception has been having a ‘roarsome’ time with their dinosaur learning. Alongside a brilliant trip to the Truro School Geology Department, they have been writing facts about different dinosaurs in literacy. In maths, the pupils have been exploring conceptual subitising; a maths skill that involves recognising a larger number by breaking it down into smaller amounts. While tricky initially, this is an important part of EYFS number development and our children did brilliantly.
Our Year 1 classes have been learning about nocturnal and diurnal animals and have been trying to spot some of them on our school wildlife cameras. In literacy, the children made leaflets about marine iguanas.
Having enjoyed a fantastic trip to Wheal Martyn, our Year 2 pupils have been sharing their learning about the history of clay mining. In maths, pupils have been learning about length by measuring lots of different things in the classroom.
