Weekly News from Pre-Prep 25.04.25

It has been a splendid start to the Summer Term as we welcomed our Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils and staff back to Truro School Pre-Prep this week.

Our Nursery children have been exploring their new topic ‘Our Big Adventure’. Pupils have enjoyed using binoculars and looking at maps, particularly to find where they live.

In Reception, pupils have been making chocolate Easter nests and writing instructions of how they made them. They have also been participating in their termly task to write and draw their names onto their classroom pegs. This is a fantastic way to mark development as the year progresses and see just how far our pupils have come. Ms Williams said she is “especially impressed by some of the progression in both drawing and writing, with some children having made considerable progress in these fields.”

In maths, pupils have been learning how to divide numbers into equal parts.

This week, our Year 1 pupils have been learning how to spell the ‘er’ and ‘est’ suffixes and understanding  how to use them to create superlative adjectives. Before enjoying a fantastic end to the week in Newquay, on their Rockpool Safari – more on this in next week’s bulletin.

In maths, pupils have been practising their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

Year 2 pupils have written postcards documenting their Easter holiday, ahead of starting their new topic, ‘The Problem with Plastic’. Whilst in maths, they commenced work with fractions.

We have all been enjoying our outdoor spaces across the Pre-Prep and celebrating nature. Our Year 2 Spring Gardens are a fabulous tribute to the landscape that surrounds us on a daily basis, and pupils have worked hard on some excellent presentations in a range of forms – from realistic miniature gardens to garden paintings.

Well done to all of our pupils on a fantastic first week back, and a warm welcome to our new starters – we look forward to sharing more exciting news with you as the term progresses.
