Our 2nd Year STEM enthusiasts attended a recent International Women in Engineering Day. It was a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to meet and get to know other girls from across the county and participate in workshops and talks led by experts in the STEM industry in Cornwall.
The workshops included activities such as milky bar welding, coding, and designing and building turbines. Approximately 20 different STEM companies from across the county were present to engage with the students and discuss career opportunities. Keynote Speaker Dr. Nash Vracas, who holds a Master’s degree in both Experimental Physics and Aerospace Dynamics, delivered an engaging talk on ‘Where can a Degree in Engineering take you?’ Drawing from her extensive experience in the automotive industry and elite sports sectors she was an inspiring role model for the girls.
Mrs Moss, Biology and Physics teacher, said, “It was a thoroughly enjoyable day which our pupils fully embraced, becoming involved in the many opportunities that the day provided. The girls gained an insight into the vast array of engineering happening right here in Cornwall and were given the opportunity to talk to experts in this field, a fantastic day was had by all.”
Thank you to Truro High School for hosting this event and to our girls for being excellent ambassadors of our school.
