We are pleased to be making our School a smartphone-free space for all 1st – 5th Years!
Over this month, we will be rolling out the Yondr system across our Senior School. Excited forms of 5th Year pupils have received their Yondr pouches and were given a demonstration by Form Tutors on how to use them.
Phones are to be stored in the pouches from morning registration until the end of the learning day. Unlocking stations have been installed throughout the school site and they will be available to use between 3.50pm and 8.45am the following morning.
We are very positive about the impact that greater restrictions on phones will have for our children and community. Yondr recently surveyed over 900 school partners to measure the effects of creating phone-free educational environments. These schools achieved notable progress in multiple areas, with 65% of schools seeing an improvement in academic performance, 72% of schools witnessing an improvement in pupil behaviour, 84% of schools with improvement in pupil engagement in the classroom, and 86% of schools noting a positive impact on pupil safety and wellbeing.
The programme has been implemented in over 3,000 schools, across 18 countries to facilitate an ever more engaged learning environment.
We will be staggering the rollout of Yondr to pupils as detailed in Mr Murphy’s letter, dated 18 October, and thank our 5th Years for leading the way with their positive and responsible approach to this change.
