Congratulations to our phenomenal Truro School Year 6 Youth Speaks team who have won the Truro area round of the Rotary competition.
Our team, consisting of Tilda (Chairperson), Ellie (Speaker) and Hugo (Vote of Thanks) spoke confidently about their chosen topic, ‘The climate is changing. Why aren’t we?’
Feedback from the judges praised their strong teamwork, from their shared sense of purpose (each wearing their green Blue Peter badges) to their repeated message; that we each need to do our little bit to make the big difference.
Ellie was also congratulated for thinking extremely well on her feet in her response to the question from the audience. She gave a great answer, which directly answered the question and included some personal experience.
Other schools in attendance included Devoran and Perran-ar-Worthal School. Their topics were ‘My favourite myth’ and ‘A.I. in education; rogue or remarkable?’
The team are delighted to represent the Truro area in the next round of this public speaking competition, which is planned to be held in West Penwith in late February 2025.
This competition was started by the Rotary Club exactly thirty years ago (when it was won by Treliske School); let’s hope that history will be made again!
