Catering

We understand the importance of good, healthy food to your child’s wellbeing and regard mealtimes as an integral part of their education.

Prep School Menus

Our dedicated Prep catering team, led by Sue McIntosh, aims to provide a range of tasty, nutritious meals offering a huge variety of choice and opportunities to try new flavours and combinations. All the food is cooked in-house, using local and organic produce where possible.

Pupils are encouraged to make their own choices and the children from Year 1 onwards are able to serve themselves from the various options on offer. There is always a range of meals to accommodate individual tastes. In addition to the main meal options, there are baked potatoes with a topping or pasta with a sauce and an extensive salad bar. The staff are also more than happy to cater for any special dietary requirements by arrangement with parents.

Our menus have all been approved by a nutritionist to ensure healthy combinations. The children can clearly see the various food groups on offer in order to make their choices. There is always a ‘world’ option on Tuesday where a range of new and exciting flavours can be sampled; there are traditional options on Thursday as well as roasts on Wednesday. Fish Friday is a popular option and main meals are always complemented by fresh vegetables, salads and a hot or cold dessert.

Pupils have access to water throughout the day and squash is available at morning break, lunch and after school (prior to clubs starting), when snacks including fresh fruit are also served. Use the links below to see our current menus.

Pre-Prep pupils come across and eat their lunch in the dining hall. In keeping with our family atmosphere the children are seated at the same table each day. Years 1 and 2 are on mixed tables so they get to know children in the year above or below.

Developing Table Manners in Early Years

We encourage good manners, the correct use of a knife and fork and insist on a high standard of behaviour, as we feel this is a very important part of their social education.

Dietary Requirements

We can cater for specific dietary needs. Our catering staff are trained to cater for pupils with allergies and religious dietary needs, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, dairy free, and egg free. Please contact our Prep Support Services Manager on 01872 24312 or by email smc@truroschool.com if you have any concerns over your child’s allergies.

Senior School Menus

Our dedicated catering team, led by our Chef Manager, Andy Burt, provide pupils with an imaginative and nutritious midday meal ranging from full roast dinners to sandwiches and salads. Breakfast and an evening meal are also provided to our boarding community and both of these are available, on request, to our day pupils.

We operate a 3-week menu cycle (see below), which is refreshed every term and passed to a nutritionist for assessment and verification that it meets the School Food Standards. All our meals are cooked freshly on the day and recognising that pupils have a wide range of tastes and appetites, our menu is designed to give the pupils as much choice as possible.

Two serveries offer the main meal, which consists of one meat/fish dish and a vegetarian dish, baked potatoes with two fillings (one vegetarian and one non vegetarian). A third servery offers a lighter lunch which consists of a hot ‘street food styled’ snack, pasta with two sauces (at least one is vegetarian), sandwiches and salad bar. Fresh soup and bread, hot and cold desserts plus fresh fruit are served centrally in the main dining room. Our portion sizes are over and above the Government guidelines.

In line with our sustainability charter and in support of our community we use reputable local companies for the supply of our meat, dairy, fruit and vegetables. Our groceries (frozen, chilled and ambient) are provided by a nationally recognised supplier

Allergy and Dietary Requirements

In recognition of supporting our pupils and staff who have a food allergy or intolerance we have a ‘No nuts’ policy in all catering outlets and operate an Allergen counter in the main canteen which serves food that does not contain gluten or milk and as few other allergens as possible. It is separate to the other serveries and the serving dishes and utensils are a separate colour to eliminate the chance of any cross-contamination. This assists the catering staff and gives confidence to our pupils and staff that the food they are receiving will not harm them.

There are signs and notices displayed around the canteen advising pupils and staff of the dishes on the menu, any relevant allergen information that they may include and what to do if they have any questions or concerns about the food. We also cater for religious, vegetarian and vegan dietary needs.

Please contact our Chef Manager on ARB@truroschool.com if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s dietary requirements.

Boarders Menus

Our dedicated catering team work around the clock to provide innovative, healthy and delicious meals before and after regular school hours for our boarding community. Our serveries offer both meat and vegetarian options, with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables available each day.
