Our Year 3 Prep classes have been on an autumnal walk to Trelissick House and Gardens this week where they were tasked with identifying the trees, birds, animals and insects in this woodland habitat.
The enthusiastic group worked in pairs, looking for leaves and comparing them to those on their factsheets to establish the tree from which they had fallen. Excitement was found in discovering acorns and horse chestnuts on the ground, identifying the sounds of robins in the trees, and witnessing grey squirrels climbing above their heads.
Mr Spears showed the group a river meandering through the woodland, teaching the children about natural water systems and erosion. They also discussed seed dispersion and how the woodland environment supports animal and plant life that thrives in its vast resources.
In addition to natural learning, the group walked through a 2000-year-old Iron Age fort to learn how people who lived on this land did so in past times.
Everyone enjoyed this opportunity to get out in the fresh air and sunshine, walking over two miles in the stunning Cornish countryside.
Thank you to our amazing teachers for their interesting presentation about the area, shared with our enthusiastic pupils.
