Breaking Ground on the Music Project

This half term break marked the starting point for construction on the Truro School Music Project as building work got underway.

Following a rigorous tender process, Classic Builders South West have been appointed to complete the build. With a fantastic reputation and relevant experience, this local contractor also demonstrated value for money and the ability to deliver this prestigious project.

This week, the contractors were on site for the first time, prepping the ground for the arrival of a crane to manage deliveries and the build of the main framework. Workers are currently busy locating services before they install a large soakaway to allow the foundations to be built in a few weeks.

We are extremely excited to see this work, due for completion in early 2026, get underway. It marks the starting point of a transformative initiative that will enrich the musical landscape of the School, the City of Truro and the wider county. When complete, the new, state-of-the-art Music Centre will provide an increased number of rehearsal and practice spaces, expanded classrooms for music education, a dedicated orchestra rehearsal space and a newly renovated 900-seat capacity Assembly Hall. This project also paves the way for improved facilities to support pupil wellbeing.

Speaking of the project, Head of Truro School Mr Andy Johnson said, “I am proud to be heading a School that embraces the transformative power of music education, investing with prudence and ambition in the cultural enrichment of the School and Cornwall’s wider community.”

Everyone at Truro School is working hard to ensure that the works have a minimal impact on school life. Weekly meetings and daily safety briefings are being held to ensure site safety. When pupils and students return, the Art and Design block will continue to be accessed through the steps by the Burrell Theatre. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to improve our facilities.
