Our Sixth Form Psychology students have been looking at cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as an intervention to improve mental health. In order to fully immerse themselves in the study, they have been trying out new activities, including potting seedlings, to illustrate ‘behavioural activation’, finding new pleasurable activity. They also found that looking after and caring for the plants, and therefore ‘looking outside of oneself’, can lead to a positive sense of purpose.
